Julie began her career in music in 1990 at the age of 18 in Moncton, NB, playing bass in Eric's Trip, one of the most revered canadian indie-rock groups ever. The first of many maritime Canadians signed to SubPop, Eric's Trip found international recognition until their break-up in 1996.
In the fall of 2001, Julie released her debut french language recording, Desormais. The companion english-language CD, heart & crime, was released in April 2002. Both records rely on minimal arrangements to propel familiar themes of self-doubt, hope, longing and sadness.
"Five Stars. Heart and Crime is arguably Julie Doiron's most vulnerable work to date; a record that lyrically tackles everything from intimidating social gatherings to parenthood." - Chart
